The archaeological study of the Bisha area has underlined the fact that development programs can be compatible with conservation of heritage sites. One of the many ancient remains of Eritrea has been uncovered in Sembel. The site was discovered on the far right of the road leading to Asmara Airport as you enter a dirt track going uphill. The site overlooks the Asmara cemetery at the top.

THE CITY OF QOHAITO
Lying over 2,500 meters above sea level, Qohaito was a pre-Aksumite city in what is now Eritrea. The city developed as a stop on the trade route between Aksum and Adulis. (By Tsegai Medhin) The numerous sites of Buia have revealed incredible findings of paleontological and archaeological significance. The sites are thought to form the most concentrated and extensive prehistoric locality for the one-million-year-old chronology anywhere in the world.
